The "Bromo Award" was established by the Arkansas Chapter of NAHRO in September 2008, for the purpose of memorializing one of our past members, Bromo Wilson, from the Fayetteville Housing Authority. Bromo loved a good joke and kept in touch daily with Arkansas NAHRO members even after his retirement by sending "dumb blonde jokes" via the internet. He had a sense of humor that was just as large as his heart. He loved to share stories and jokes, many of them were true and told on himself. You could always count on a good laugh when you were in his presence.
The Arkansas "Bromo Award" parallels the Southwest "Horses Aft Award" which is the South end of a North bound horse. The Southwest award is done by secret ballot and the Arkansas award will follow the same criteria. Originally the nominator had to take part in the award which has made many people reluctant to participate.
The winner of the "Bromo Award" will be selected from the membership of Arkansas NAHRO by secret nomination. Qualifications for the award include not only being as gullible as Bromo but also must have a sense of humor and be worthy of being named the "Blondest Blonde in the Arkansas Chapter of NAHRO".
The plaque honoring the winner reads: "The Bromo Award" with a blonde thingy, in chicken country, calling the hogs, awarded to the blondest blonde in the Arkansas Chapter of NAHRO.
Nominations will be accepted through August and the winner named at the fall conference each year. This is a traveling award and the winner will get to keep the trophy for a period of one year, until the next year's winner is named.
